The Woodforde is a period town house, recently refurbished by the Newman family. Located in the centre of the small town of Moretonhampstead set on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park.

Historically the property has been a sweet shop, a fish and chip shop, a guest house, a family home and latterly a restaurant.

As a restaurant, it was named after The Reverend James Woodforde, an eighteenth century country parson and diarist, whose writing is renowned for it’s descriptive detail on the food and cookery of the time leaving a wonderful historical legacy on the subject.

We consider ourselves very lucky to be able to live and work in Moretonhampstead and feel privileged to offer you a taste of life in this beautiful part of the country. Accommodation at The Woodforde is a new venture for our long established family business.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our comfortable surroundings and friendly personal service which combine to make your stay with us a most enjoyable experience.
